memory cards

  1. After successfully installing new memory cards three months ago the screen went blue with the message that there is a memory parity error. Parity is impossible since all cards are Dell issued for this Dell PC. Any suggestions?

  2. It doesn't matter if the memory all came from Dell. There could still be a
    problem.

Download the Windows Memory Diagnostic from here:
    http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Run the program-- it creates a boot floppy (just insert a blank floppy
    disk.)

Then boot up from the disk* and let it run through the tests. (It will keep
running until you press X-- let it go for a while, but generally you will
know your answer within 5-10 minutes.) If you see any failures, your RAM is
very likely to be defective and you should look into replacing it. The
errors you report can definetely be caused by this.

    * You may need to go into your BIOS to allow you to boot from a floppy. The
exact way to do this depends on the motherboard, but generally you press
either DEL, F1, F2, ESC or CTRL-ALT-ESC during the bootup (before Windows
comes up) and then hunt through the menus to set the Boot Sequence so that
the floppy comes before the hard drive
