  1. I am an IT student and would like to take MCP, what are the courses I need to
do, what are the exam #'s. How to prepare for this. Any suggestions for me.

    Sue,

I would start by going to
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/default.mspx. The certification that
is right for you depends on what you want to do within the IT career field.
After you decide which path is right for you, I would read the documentation
provided by MS and use the associated tools.

  3. Hi Sue,

MCP is the first step you make in a long process that does not have an end.
Depending on the career/certification goals you set for yourself you may
choose any of a number of courses.

For one, almost every Microsoft Certification exam (NOT ALL but MOST) are
MCP qualifying exams. It is up to you to pick the right one, but I always
advise people try an exam based on what they know better as the first one -
none of the exams are easy, and the more familiar you are with the material
the better your chances for success.

When I first walked into a training centre some years ago I asked the same
question, and they told me that the accepted path for my goals (MCSA then
MCSE) would be to take the desktop exam (070-210 (Windows 2000 Professional))
first, then the server exam, then move on to the real environment exams. It
was good advice, and today I am happy I went that path.

(quick anecdote: I took four courses in succession and nearly decided to
take the hardest exam, 070-216:Infrastructure) first. I am quite sure that
since I failed the easy exam, the harder exam would have made me sick!
Lesson: Start easy and move up to harder gradually, not the other way around.)

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I agree and that's how I took my exams as well. Started with the
Windows App exam and worked my way up to the Solution Architectures
    exam.

Another advantage of this approach is that in some cases, advanced
exams require a deeper understanding of certain topics that are just
overviewed in easier exams. So it helps because you are already
    familiar with the basics.

For instance, while Security is an important area of focus for each of
the MCSD track exams, the 70-340 elective really delves very deep into
    the topic.
