Three fine new Dr. Who episodes come to life in fine sets that each
hold a single disc classic episode from a different era. DOCTOR WHO:
NIGHTMARE OF EDEN (0780691903, $24.98) is from the years when Tom
Baker was Dr. Who - the mid-70s through the early 80s - and offers the
key episode telling of two spacecraft fusing in hyperspace and a
rescue mission led by the Doctor which uncovers a dangerous animal and
a planet called Eden. Extras here include audio commentary with actor
and insights on the Dr. Who stories, along with a photo gallery and
additional materials. DOCTOR WHO: THE HAPPINESS PATROL (078069192X,
$24.98) is from the Sylvester McCoy years from 1987-89 and tells of
the too-happy population of a planet which has no sadness. The Doctor
and Ace arrive to topple the regime and faces their own demise at the
hands of a not-so-benevolent dictator. Also from these years is
DRAGONFIRE (0780691911, $24.98), which tells of the Doctor and Mel's
encounter with a dangerous old friend, and the introduction of teen
waitress Ace who loves explosives and high adventure. More audio
commentary and details from special effects supervisor Danny
Hargreaves spices swift science fiction. All are top picks for
newcomers and old Doctor Who fans like.
