Lottery Winners Love The Lovely and Luscious Mk III

Discussion in 'Digital Photography' started by =?iso-8859-1?Q?Rita_=C4_Berkowitz?=, Sep 26, 2007.

  1. Well, today was the big day when I got to cash the ticket in and collect my
loot. It was a wonderful and exciting day. Even had a catered party
afterwards. Who says you can't win playing the lottery? With all my
winnings I might have to start exploring other brands of equipment, Leica
    maybe.

    LMFAO!!

    That is a crack up.

I found a scratchie place one day that said if I buy 5 tickets and don't
win anything, they would pay me $50. I thought knowing my luck of never
winning anything, I was a shoe in for my $10 investment. I got through
them all and got to the last one and there it was....a $2 win DOH!!

A friend scratched one and got $50,000 a year for 20 years. Set her up
    nicely.

It also set the government up nicely....They too, got 50,000 a year for the
next 20 years. The lotto is a loser....They end up paying out only about one
third of what they take in, and because the government taxes it at around
50%, you only get one sixth of your money back on the average.....No Vegas
casino could possibly stay in business if they only gave back one sixth of
the money they took in. Frankly, I can't understand why anyone would deal
with the lotto people....That's why they call it a, "stupid tax".

if she scratched it in Australia she pays absolutely no tax on the actual
winning, she will only pay tax on any income derived from the winnings eg:
she will pay tax on the interest earned from a bank etc, but then only as a
part of her whole yearly income.

Yes....That is a much more fair system. What business of the government's is
it that they should take half one's lotto winnings away from them? - Do they
offer more military protection to a lotto winner? - Do they maintain the
streets better for them? No. they just take the money away from them because
it's there....That's the kind of government we have here in the United
States....Basically, they are thieves..........I liken them to Robin
Hood.....He just stole from people because they had money.....It's the tacit
assumption that if you have money, you must have stolen it from the
poor....The inability to conceive of someone who can make money by actually
working for it, or saving and investing it.

No, you just have to itemize your deductions:
    http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc419.html

"You may deduct gambling losses only if you itemize deductions. Claim
your gambling losses as a miscellaneous deduction on Form 1040,
Schedule A (PDF). However, the amount of losses you deduct may not be
more than the amount of gambling income you have reported on your
return. It is important to keep an accurate diary or similar record of
your gambling winnings and losses. To deduct your losses, you must be
able to provide receipts, tickets, statements or other records that show
the amount of both your winnings and losses. Refer to Publication 529,
    Miscellaneous Deductions, for more information."

In the US you can, but only as an offset to your winnings in that year. If you
lost more than you won, the excess loss doesn't do you any good.

long enough, I'd finally find reason to agree with you. AFAIK the gummin
takes 50% of the pot before the drawing; or so they claim, then the larger
share of the winners take, then a percentage of interest paid on the
remainder, and of course tax on anything they buy. OTOH, millionaires have
gotten a good six tax breaks during this administration, so they might have
    a little wiggle room. Bob
