Losing a USB

Discussion in 'Windows 64bit' started by David B. Mathews, Jun 2, 2009.

  1. First of I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit with SP2. Ok, the noise the
computer makes when you pull out a USB device like a flash drive well ever
since I installed SP2 every once in a while I get that same noise twice.
I'm guessing once when it goes away and once when it comes back a few
seconds later. I tried the device manager but when that problem is
happening the device manager what I call open with all the devices showing
to just the top most name which is the name of my computer that I gave it
when I installed windows. Same thing happens if you click on the (-) that
is beside the computer name and then click on the (+). This doesn't do it
all the time and I can't see what it could be. Only other time it would do
it is when my blue tooth mouse/keyboard would go away which doesn't hardly
ever happen much anymore since Windows Vista has matured. Does anyone have
any ideas how I can figure out which device is momentarily going away and
    coming back.

    David,
I have had to deal twice with that issue.
    Root causes were:
    Faulty external hub.
    Faulty (intermittent) USB extension cord.

I find sometimes Bluetooth can be flaky, things don't always work as they
    are suppose too.
Even windows 7 has some Bluetooth "Qwerks"
