Logitech middle mouse button for Firefox

I have a Logitech mouse with MouseWare installed. I'm using the
    middle-button (scroll-wheel) as a double-click (when pressed, that is).
However, in certain circumstances the middle button would stop
performing the double-click action within Firefox window (but would
still double-click when outside of it). I figured this is actually very
handy since the default middle button behavior will open links in new
tabs in Firefox (while still using the double-click action elsewhere).
Since I am unaware of any "rational" explanation on how this happens,
does anyone know where this setting can be made "official" (that is,
using double-click on middle button everywhere but within Firefox
    windows)?
