    well this was a surprise

    while surfing randomly -
just had a new Firefox window open
with an large advert for an online casino

note - I'm not using AdBlocker

this is the first pop-up ad I've seen in FireFox

definitely *not* opened by me clicking on a link

have to work back - see if I can find which one
    caused it to open...

Do you have a URL of the site where the popup was triggered from?

It could be a new kind of popup/popunder which is triggered when you
click a link. Ad syndication companies are now (also) using some
Javascript code to add additional code to each link on the page that
triggers the popup/under. AFAIK, these kind of popups/unders cannot yet
be blocked by Firefox. However, you could install the extension AdBlock
which would allow to block the Javascript code.

    er... yes...
but it's one I look at occasionally...
to keep an eye on "the dark side of the Force" as it were
so I'm not going to admit looking there ;)

    indeed - JavaScript it is

looks like it may be time to install AdBlock after all...
