II thought I'd try to install the latest java plugin for mozilla (and IE) as
the java control panel in windows control pannel wasn't showing mozilla. I
got j2se 1.4.2 and uninstalled my original runtime, then installed the new
application. Now my control panel doesn't have an icon for java control
panel, so i'm not sure if I have the plugin for any of my browsers. Net
    beans is installed ok.

    Have I boobed big time?

Sorted. I needed the runtime environment.
