I am getting a lot of e-mails with attachments titled `Security Pack'
regarding cumulative patches. It says it is from Microsoft but the e-mails
do not look very professional. Are these virus e-mails or am I safe
downloading what they claim is the `patch'.
    Thanks.

    Don't be an idiot.

    Microsoft does not mail patches.

I have just noticed that my anti-virus has spotted the worm virus in the
above mentioned e-mail from what looks like MS. I now know the answer to
    the above question.
    Thanks.

The MS take on that is

We never attach software updates to our security e-mail notifications.
Rather, we refer customers to our Web site for complete information on
the software update or security incident. Most Microsoft software
updates are provided through Microsoft Windows Update, Microsoft Office
Update, or the Microsoft Download Center.
