Getting this message with a BSOD stop error.
    Bad ram??
I am thinking that a simm tester should reveal any problems with the
    memory,is that correct.
Other than faulty memory what might the problems be and which diagnostic
tools may reveal the IRQ error?
    OS- XP sp1.
    1.0 ghz AMD Duron,512mb RAM.
    Sony Vaio Notebook.
    No errors/conflicts in Device Manager.
Many thanks for your help ;-)

If nothing has changed, bad memory is a possibility. Use memtest86 to
    check the memory: www.memtest86.com

This is usually a driver error. More detailed information is needed.

A crappy Sandra report means nothing to me -- I don't have the
inclination to wade through it, either. I'm talking about specific
(verbatim) error messages, and system details.

    I see.
The only error message on the BSOD is "IRQ NOT LESS OR EQUAL".
What more in the way of system details would you require °Mike°?
There is an error code, would that be useful?

Verbatim == "word for word". I suspect you didn't even get the initial
error text correct. It is more than likely:

I really didn't think the underscore was that vital °Mike°,sorry.

It's not just the underscore, though, is it? Quoting error messages
accurately is vital. It can mean the difference between a cure and
    no help at all.

Sounds familiar! I had this a while back. Googled it and found it could be
any number of problems from bad ram to dodgy graphics drivers to failing
hard drive etc, etc. In my particular case it was simply the cpu
overheating. I cleaned out the inside of the tower unit (full of fluff!)
bought a new bigger fan and heatsink for £10 and it's been good as gold
    since. HTH.

I had the same problem... Downloaded MS Memcheck from Microsoft, ran it...
and it scanred the bajeesus out of me... Changed the memory, and now
    everything works like a charm.
