Intel 3Ghz chips

I've noticed that at least in the main stream, new, up to date syatems
are only being sold with up to 2.6Ghz chips in them. I know Intel has
3+Ghz chips out there, and I see systems with these chips on eBay. I'm
just curious as to why I don't see ads for Dell, Compaq, HP, etc, with
chips higher than 2.6Ghz. My interest is that I plan to build a new
system and was going to go with the 3.06Ghz processor. But I'm womdering
if there's a reason I don't know about that the big manufacturers don't
    use it. Thanks.
