Installing XP on a computer

  1. Hey,
I have an old 98 dell that has a 20 gig hard drive. It was really bad and
the harddrive didn't work well. Everytime there was too much to do or even
when I started it up, there would be a very high pitched sound and then it
would either cease or crash and restart agian and say that there was no
operating system found. So, I took the harddrive out and put it in another
computer that had XP home on it and reformated it to FAT32 aned then to NTFS.
This erased the harddrive of the old operating system and everything on it.
So I thouoght I would be ok to load XP on it. I put it back into the old
computer and restarted the computer only to find "CLDR not found, hold
cntr+alt+del to restart." I do not know what to do. I put the XP CD into it
and nothing happened still. THis CD came with my new computer, is that a
reason why it doesn't work? It is an XP home edition one. Are all XP CDs
bootable? Do I have to put 98 back on it and put XP on afterward? PLease
respond quickly! Thank you very much

You might have to go into the BIOS settings and set the computer to boot off
the CD before the HD. However if problems persist I would suggest following
up in one of the XP groups.
