Installing wifi router, already have DSL

Discussion in 'Computer Support' started by Richard Fangnail, Dec 17, 2010.

  1. Suppose you have a desktop Windows computer with a DSL modem. You
want to add a netgear Wifi router so that you can also use a laptop
and/or an Iphone (which sometimes uses wifi).

Is the basic setup like this:

wall -> wifi router -> DSL modem -> desktop computer

or are the router and DSL modem in the reverse order?

    Thanks -

on the cable that connects the DSL modem to the router, the plug on
the modem says WAN and the plug on the router would say what?

Also is this cable the same type of cable that is between the router
    and computer?
