I bought a new cpu and monitor with high 1280X1064 resolution the icons are
too small , how do I increase their size? The OS is windows XP home
    edition.

It distorts the picture when the resolution is lowered

If you go into Display Properties, there is an option via the "Effects"
button, on the Appearance page, to Use Large Icons...

  5. In addition to that,

You may want to run the Accessibility Wizard in Control Panel.

    To get to it:

Control Panel > Accessibility Options > Configure Windows to work for your
    vision, hearing and mobility needs.

If you do not like what the wizard does for you, you can run it again to
change the options, or restore it to default settings.

    To restore to defaultL
    Right-click on the desktop
    Click Properties
    Click the Appearance Tab
under Windows and buttons, select Windows XP Style
    inder Font Size, select Normal
    Press OK and/or Apply.

Change small fonts to large fonts.

Use a resolution with the same height/width ratio as the one you like or
one close to that ratio. Or just use a "distorted" one for a while and
it will soon seem to be normal.

Don/t know about XP but probably similarly to 98...
    Display properties
    Appearance tab
    Icon (in "Item" window)

Normal icon size is 32x32 but you can change it to what you want. Doing
so may distort icon color and/or shape.
