.... my in box (Outlook express - WinXP home) shows ONE unread message - when
I click on it to read there is nothing .... therefore I can't delete it - it
    re-appears on start-up - reboot etc....

When I get new messages there is always one more than actually exists - its
    worrying me - spyware/trojan etc...

When I right click on properties it says it's in :

    C:\Document and Settings\'MYUSERNAME'\Loca

    - then because of box width I can't read any more - presume LOCAL

if I go there I don't know what to delete ????

Any suggestion as to how to get rid of it ??????

Assuming you don't want to keep any emails in your Inbox (otherwise copy
them elsewhere): close OE, search your computer for the file 'inbox.dbx' and
delete it, then reopen OE. It will create a new Inbox, hopefully without
    this errant email.
