how to create a wireless bridge with your laptop?

Discussion in 'Wireless Networking' started by christoph8467, Aug 16, 2006.

  1. I am moving into a place where I can get free internet from my
landlord's wireless router, which itself is plugged into a cable modem
for its high-speed broadband connection. However, I don't have access
to the cable modem (or ethernet router) directly in my apartment. I
have a VOIP device that requires an actual ethernet-cable connection to
work. Is there a way I can use my windows XP box as a bridge, taking
the internet via the landlord's wireless using the built-in wireless
card in my computer, and using it to provide an internet connection to
my VOIP box? The windows XP machine has both wireless and a typical
    10/100 ethernet port.

Is there a better way? This is moving me into a realm I have never
had to think about, so I really have no idea where to start.

  2. Hi
You can set Windows ICS to Route the Internet to the Wired Card. However, I
am not sure that the VOIP would work off such a feed.
Give it a try, its free ;),
