I use the net provided by my apartment building. It has 8 access points (routers in certain units) with the same SSID. I notice I have connected to at least 3 different ones. Oftentimes some access points get disconnected or just don't function, but Windows XP still tries to connect to it...It usually just takes me a dozen tries (if I'm lucky) for Windows to connect to a different, working one.

I heard that moving my laptop around could work, but didn't know how effective that is...I don't want to do that anyway as I usually work at the same spot.

Is there a way in Windows or a program that will allow me to pick an access point?

I tried my wireless card program (Intel Pro 2200BG). It shows a list of the APs with no info on MAC/signal strength/Channel etc. When I select one to connect to, it asks for device ownership password. But how am I supposed to know which AP is which router? Not to mention it's hard for me to ask all the tenants about router presence in their room...

    Any help is appreciated.
