    tight, well-loved OS for a large market (i.e., Apple’s iOS) or do you

    reach a much larger audience?

    Rewind 20 years, and the question could have been rephrased as

    Herein, of course, lies the developers’ dilemma. Do you develop on a
    tight, well-loved OS for a large market (i.e., Apple’s Macintosh) or do
    you develop in Microsoft’s Wild West, navigating multiple hardware and
    software platforms and many versions of the DOS/Windows OS to
    potentially reach a much larger audience?

    We all know how that earlier one turned out...
