High utilization on network with Cisco 4500M LAN Interface

    I have inherited an old token ring network. We have been experiencing
    slow performance just recently and have been trying to track down the
    cause. I attached a Fluke meter 670 and let it run all day. It
    reported that the average utilization was 90% with only 67 token ring
    nodes. Our users are getting request timed outs and kicked out of
    application from our servers.

    The Fluke also reported the top frame sender and top broadcaster was
    the Cisco 4500M Token Ring port (tracked down by MAC address)

    Is there any soul out there that can help me? TIA

    Look at your output rate:
    5 minute output rate 1759000 bits/sec, 393 packets/sec
    You have a lot of traffic comming out of there, you can do things like early
    token release but, can you find out what all that traffic is? Do you have
    any pc's infected with a worm?
