My wife's computer with win xp has developed a problem during the boot
process. She receives a message box [lsass.exe - Bad Image] The
application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\cryptdll.dll is not a valid Windows
image. Check against installation diskette. It will not complete the boot
process or allow me to boot into the safe mode.

I did a search on Google and found some information about some virus type
files using the name Isass.exe to be confused with lsass.exe, but I don't
think that is the problem here.

I will appreciate any help. I will reinstall win xp if I have to, as a last
    resort.

Okay, the Isass.exe is usually a symptom of the Sasser virus. Easily
patched. However I have never encounterd the bad image error before, so not
sure what that's about. Sasser can prevent booting BTW. Can you get a floppy
    with the sasser patches?
