Guide For New MCP'S and MCDST.

    It's Giridharan , MCP,MCDST(One of the youngest MCDST's) , 14 years old
    , from India.

I see many people , having same type of problems reg. MCP ID , MCP
Access Code, Welcome Kits , Transcripts etc.

I hope this post will surely help those who have such questions.

    1. What is MCP ID ?

MCP ID is the short form of Microsoft Certified Professional
Identification Number. This ID or this No. is automatically generated
when you register or schedule for any Microsoft Exam with a new profile
at any Pearson VUE or Prometric Testing Centre.

    2. How to know your MCP ID ?

After you finish a MS exam at Pearson VUE or Prometric centre , you
immediately receive a score report , with your score , Candidate ID ,
Registration ID etc., In that score report , you may be able to see you
    MCP ID.

    3. What is MCP Access Code and how & when Will I get it ?

As your exam is over , the exam results are delivered to Microsoft from
Pearson or Prometric , which will normally take minimum
1-3 business days. Then Microsoft assigns you an Access Code . It is
just like a password which lets you get registered in MCP Member Site
..Then Microsoft sends you , your MCP ID first in a E-mail to the
address which you registered while taking your exam . Then you'll
receive the second mail , with a MCP Access Code.

    4. No , I've not received my MCP ID and Access Code via Mail . What to
    do now ?

Normally , one receives his/her ID and Access Code within 2 business
weeks(Maximum). But atleast wait for atleast 5-6 days . If you don't
recieve then also , just send a mail to with the
following particulars.(These particulars said down can be found in your
    score report)
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    1.Candidate Name :

    2.Candidate ID (MCP ID) :

3.Date on which you took u'r exam :

    4.Exam No. :

    5.Registration ID :

    6.Site ID :

    7.Your score :

8.Your address which you entered while registering for the exam :
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9.Any other particulars entered while registering or scheduling like
    phone no. etc.,

Particulars up to NO.8 i.e. 8th point are absolutely necessary whereas
9th information is not much wanted. But it you provide it's good and
    better.

After your mail reaches them , you'll get a mail with subject "MCP
    Acknowledgement (XY67289398738)" from . This
acknowledgement is the only proof that your mail have reached MS. Then
promptly within 24 to 48 business hours or 2 weekdays , you'll receive
your MCP ID and Access Code. This will work 99%. If this also doesn't
work means then contact your regional service centre via phone .
(Mailing MS Regional Centres does'nt have a good effect as callng them
    via phone.

5.Yes. I have got my MCP Id and Access Code . What to do now ?

Then you have to go to
    https://mcp.microsoft.com/mcp

and enter your MCP ID and MCP Access Code. Then you should bind your
MCP Credentials with your .NET Account.
..NET Account can be created easily by registering in Microsoft Passport
Network or if you have a MSN Hotmail Account that will also regarded as
..NET account. Then once your MCP ID , Access Code and your .NET Account
gets merged, then you can directly enter MCP Member Site with your .NET
passport ID and password or you hotmail Account ID and password.

6.OK ! All went fine and I am now registered in MCP Members Area. When
will I receive my Welcome Kit ?
In order to receive your welcome Kit , you have to first request it as
soon as you get registered in MCP Site. You can do it by entering MCP
Member Site by using your MCP Credentials and then by doing the
    following.

1.Click , "Program Benefits" on the left side of the MCP Member Site
    Page.

    2.Click "Welcome Kit" .

3.If you are liable for requesting welcome kit , you will be shown a
link or a button to do so. Then click that.

4You will be asked to verify your shipping address , Verify it and
request the welcome kit. . Remember , you can request only one welcome
kit for one exam . After you request your welcome kit , the link will
automatically disappear. Then when you are liable to receive any other
welcome kit , the button or link to request it appears automatically.

After you request your welcome kit , you will receive it within 4-6
weeks . If it extends more than 7-8 weeks , then it's better to contact
you RSC(Regional Service Centre) and they will do it for you.

    7. What for MS needs us to request the welcome kit , will anyone
does'nt need his kit after paying 250 USD for that ?

Just THINK ,that you are doing your MCSE , the huge 7 exams. You are
not forced to be in a same address for the whole period doing your MCSE
.. You may get on somewhere and your address may get changed . So only
MS , asks you to verify your address of shipping and if it's any thing
wrong or needs modification , you can simply change it and request
    it...

    8.Will I receive a MCDST welcome kit when I pass 70-271 and 70--272?

    Yes. Surely .

9.I finished 70-271 a few days ago. I've also completed my 70-272 today
.. But my Transcript shows only me as Microsoft Certified Professional
and not Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician!!!

Please wait for 5-6 business days to get your transcript updated . If
this does'nt work then try the 10th tip .Then you'll automatically be
able to request your MCDST welcome kit and forget not to request it .

    10. If your transcript is not updated , contact your RSC , and you'll
get it updated within 2-3 business days.

If any one has more queries , that of those given here , please feel
free to contact me at .

Or the simple way is post your query in this newsgroup and there are
kind and brilliant men to solve them and give you a best solution.

    HOPE FOR THE BEST!!!!
    Regards
    Giridharan Ravi.

    Hi Giri

No Giri, unfortunately in my printout (from prometric exam) there is not my
    MCP ID
I got a "Candidate ID" (which I think it only referres to prometric
candidates, not to microsoft) and I got a registration number wich also I
    think referres to prometric
I do not have any MCP ID from my test result.
I sent an email to microsoft to the address you posted here (thank you).
    Nobody replied.
I am very disappointed with all this thing, "very".
It would make sense that when you pass your first exam an MCP ID would be
generated automatically from the printout and given to you.
In my case, unfortunately, it is not.

    > As your exam is over , the exam results are delivered to Microsoft from

After 7 working days they told me that Microsoft didn't received my result
(they didn't send it) and suggested to wait other 10 working days

Then Microsoft assigns you an Access Code . It is
    > just like a password which lets you get registered in MCP Member Site

but.... you said it was in the printout!!!

I sent an email but nobody replied.
I'll go in person at Sydney Prometric and Microsoft Offices. I am going to
    be a very annoying nuance.
I'll make sure they will be "very happy" to give me my certificate
immediately, doing one immediately, even drawing it by hand if necessary.

Gosh! this think really piss me off!

Sorry Syd . I was able to view my MCP ID (as Candidate ID) in my
Pearson VUE report , but I don't know how prometric is. .

    > After 7 working days they told me that Microsoft didn't received my result

As per the info I know Microsoft experiences a temporary delay
receiving results from Prometric. It may have happened in your case.
Don't worry Syd MS and Prometric won't and shouldn't be much careless
b'coz we pay bucks to them !! ..

However , MS also sends you your MCP Id via E-mail and you will also
see your MCP id in your Pearson Vue score report in the field
    (candidate id).

Don't worry Syd . I pray to god for you to get your mcp id and welcome
    kits as soon as possible.

Thanks for the post Giri. Too bad the people who usually ask these
questions never think to search for previous postings before they ask their
    questions.

See if you can post this on a website somewhere. That will make it easier
so we can point people to it when they ask these questions.

Well yes Giri. I have a 'Candidate ID' (not MCP) and I sent it with all
other information to MS by email. They didn't replay, probably because
didn't receive my result from Prometric (and that's for sure, Prometric
didn't send them, I had to call them by phone and, apparently, eventually
    thei did it.

    Gosh !!!

The info are correct Giri, no doubt about that.

    > It may have happened in your case.

It surely has (they didn't sent them at all...)

Well yes... I suppose that someday (over the rainbow..) maybe in a
month..maybe less..maybe more... I finally will get my MCP ID and I'll be
    able to request my certificate

(but that's not fair and not funny)

Thank you Giri, you're such a kind, helping and caring person.
    God bless you.

(I wish I could met people like you more frequently, unfortunately it's not
    the case...)
