You forgot to mention that for some reason, a short version of episode
1 was used on this set. The rest of the episodes are the full-length
    episodes.

    Will,

I don't have the box set yet. I'm considering it for an xmas present
for my brother, who was a fan when it first ran late nights on
cbs/syndication. Can you please explain more about this short version
of episode 1? I assume this is the original pilot from 1989 and not
the 2-part "Dark Knight" episodes that started off the regular series
    that ran 1992-1996?

To the Original Poster, I believe you made a typographical mistake on:
Episodes Disc Three: "Dead Issue", "Hunters, Father Figure", "Dying
    For Fame"

"Hunters" and "Father Figure" are two seperate episodes and "Dead
Issue" came between them according to www.epguides.com.

No. The original pilot, NICK KNIGHT, was released several months ago
by another label (Artisan, if memory serves) on its own, as the
ownership of that film is in different hands.

What Will means is that the first episode in the set, which is the
first half of the "Dark Knight" 2-parter, appears to be the short CBS
"Crimetime After Primetime" version rather than the longer versions
that ran in Canada and on the Sci Fi Channel. It only runs 40-41
minutes on DVD -- and that includes promo scenes from Part 2 at the
end -- whereas all of the other episodes run around 47 minutes.

    jayembee,

thanks for the clarification. Any idea what was in the 6 or so
    minutes that were cut?

Memory didn't serve. It was Anchor Bay.

At this point, no. I foolishly reused my recordings of the
Sci Fi Channel versions of the S1 eps before having the
set in my hands. And wouldn't you know it, Sci Fi had just
had one of their Daily Rotations with five or six eps of
FK just the week before the set came out. :-(

(It's almost funny that I kept my CBS recordings of the
eps, but not Sci Fi versions. Mostly, I kept the CBS ones
because they had full screen closing credits.)

And it's been a while since I'd watched these. The only
thing I distinctly remember from when I first taped the
Sci Fi Channel versions was that there were some editing
changes (at least one scene appears in a different place
in the episode in one version than in the other, though I
believe it's in the second half), and that, though the
Sci Fi version was longer than the CBS version, there were
still a few scenes in the latter that were not in the former.
Which suggests that both the CBS version and Sci Fi version
were cut down from the full-length Canadian version by
different people with different editing choices.

As far as I can recall, the pilot was the only instance in
which the above was the case.
