I have a Seagate external hard drive I use for backups. Recently I attempted to backup data onto the drive and for some unknown reson it won't open. My Device Manager recognizes the drive is attached and My Computer recognizes the drive, but when attempting to open the drive or move data to it, an error message comes up stating action could not take place due to a I/O error. I am working on XP system. I have disconnected the external drive cables and power several times and rebooted the computer with same error message coming up. Even when disconnecting the drive while computer is on the ping sound occurs telling me of the disconnect and repings when reattaching so I know the computer recognizes the drive. Any suggestions?
