Sorry I haven't responded to those people helping with my unable to delete
file problem, I have just managed to get access back, lots of trial and
error, and have an even more frustrating problem.
When I try to open any programme or application a note pad box appears full
of text and nothing will run. Even after rebooting, when windows reloads
zone alarm, kaspersky etc do not load but appear as an open note pad box on
the desktop. Trying to run for example msconfig, cmd, anything from the
control all results in a note pad appearing. Windows XP home edition is my
    OS.
    Once again thanks in advance.

It seems that something (virus) has changed the file extension
associations. .EXE files are now opened with notepad. When i read about
this on a forum, someone said you could try to change the .EXE files
into .COM files. If that doesn't work, I would recommend to reinstall
    Windows.

Unzip the .reg file and double-click it on the problem

Update. If I right click on a desktop icon and select "run as", I get a
dialogue box. If I uncheck the protect my computer and data from
unauthorised activity, the application runs as normal.
    Is this info any use?
