errors trying to install mplayerplug-in from source

Discussion in 'Computer Support' started by noalternative, Feb 26, 2007.

  1. Ok, I am trying to follow the instructions in the mplayerplugin for Opera
    howto. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=185547&page=2

Anyway, I didn't seem to get any errors during the actual compiling phase.
but when I entered "make" I seemed to run into problems. Here is the
    output.

You are missing X11/X.org development libraries. Locate the correct package
for your Linux distribution that contains the X11/X.org development toolkit,
    and install it.

This and many of the other errors suggest that you're missing the
various X -dev packages. Try installing xlibs-dev. (Or you may need to
individually install libx11-dev, libxext-dev, and assorted other
libx*-dev packages instead. I'm not sure if Ubuntu will provide the
    xlibs-dev package.)

Hmm...this is suggesting that there's an "#if" on line 108 of
np_entry.cpp but looking at my copy of the sources, that should just be
"if" (no # character). It looks to me like somehow your copy of the
file got changed. Manually delete the # on line 108 and see what happens.

    Where is np_entry.cpp ?

I believe the error message said it was in the plugingate sub-directory
of wherever you installed the sources.

I have used find / to locate both np_entry.cpp and plugingate, but it
    hasn't found either.

What directory were you in when you did "./configure" and "make"? Go
back to it, and it will have a subdirectory called plugingate, where you
will find np_entry.cpp. Based on your earlier post, it looks like that
was ~/mplayerplug-in while you were root. So it's in root's home
directory, which is usually /root and accessible only by root.

Ok, this worked and thank you for all your help. I was able to configure
the the plugin, but even after doing all that and following the
instructions on the howto the plugin isn't working? Could it be a
    permissions problem?
