    I have problem with encapsulation.
When I use hdlc encapsulation between 2 Cisco Routers
on the serial interface via a leased line connection I get connected,
Serial4/3 is up, line protocol is up

but when I switch both to ppp encapsulation I get disconnected
Serial4/3 is up, line protocol is down

This is the config of serial
    interface Serial4/3
    description CompanyXYZ
    ip address 10.14.11.29 255.255.255.252
    no ip directed-broadcast
    encapsulation ppp

    Any help in this issue

    Thanks

  2. Hi,

You'll have to setup some kind of authentication method when using PPP. Try
adding "ppp authentication chap" in serial interface configuration mode and
issue an "debug ppp authentication" command to see PPP authentication
handshaking. Don't forget to setup user accounts on both sides of the link.
For a detailed ppp setup, have a look at the cisco website, loads of
    samples.

Why I should configure username/password on the 2 Routers ?
The connection is used Leased Line...
Where should I configure username/password on the Router at which Level?
    you mean:
    username remote_router password foo

  4. G'day,

I have just configured two routers back-to-back simulating your
configuration and it works just fine. Here is each side:

    -------- Router #1 ------------
    interface Serial0
    ip address 10.0.20.20 255.255.255.0
    no ip directed-broadcast
    encapsulation ppp
    clockrate 250000
    no cdp enable

(you probably wont need the clockrate 250000 because the telco is providing
the clocking (both devices are DTE's) or if you just have a private
connection (one DCE and one DTE) then clock it to the speed you need).

    -------- Router #2 ------------
    interface Serial0
    ip address 10.0.20.10 255.255.255.0
    encapsulation ppp
    no keepalive
    no cdp enable
