emails wrongly put in spam file

    I have Trend Micro.

    Recently genuine emails are arriving in the Spam file.
    Newsletters subscribed to, Library renewal notices, even order
    confirmations from firms are arriving there instead of in the Inbox folder.

    I notify them as "false positives", but it still goes on.

    It isn't really a problem as I check the spam file with the Inbox each time,
    but I wonder if anyone else is finding this, or if it is my computer.
    I haven't changed any of the Trend Micro settings.

    Is there anything I could do about it please?

    I've been over half an hour trying to find something relevant on their
    website. There is somewhere to ask a question, but zero results.

    I'll just have to put up with it until whoever sorts out the spam at Trend
    Micro learns how to do the job properly. I suppose they've got a school
    leaver just starting there. We used to get all kinds of problems with new
    kids when I did office work, at this time of year.

    Shouldn't you ditch the product? Are you asking yourself, why do I pay
    these people money? (when there are better free products available).

    I've had Trend Micro since I got the computer, about 1994. I've found them
    very good.
    This has only been happening recently.

    It could be something in my computer, anyway.

    No, it's Trend Micro doing the (erroneous) spam tagging. What else
    would it be?

    I don't think it could be xtra. Must be Trend Micro. Or could I have
    accidentally ticked something I shouldn't?
    Is there anything I should check? I don't understand all the technical
    stuff.

    How long a company has given you good service is no reason to hold onto them
    if they are now sinking.

    Personally, I would try turning it off, the spam control in Trend. Ones ISP
    does a pretty good job these days. 1994 is so way back in time internet
    wise

    Well if they are told about it they will hopefully sort it out in the next
    patch/update.

    Today I received a piece of spam, the first time this year, considering I get
    over 200 emails a day that is pretty bloody good considering.
    Recently several members on our mailing list were hit with the "Send money, I'm
    travelling and lost all my money" attack. We know someones email address list
    has been hacked.
    The members are all about the competency level Geopelia is at.
    Hopefully we have managed to explain it properly and accurately and no one will
    fall for it.

    I had a look at that. It says I would have to close the email software
    before turning the spam control off.
    I don't want to start fiddling with anything like that, wouldn't know how to
    do it anyway.

    But tonight there was nothing in the spam, so perhaps they have fixed it
    their end.

    We have in excess of 2000 people on the list so I think that the level of
    knowledge is the norm, as is yours.

    The level of people posting here is very much higher.
    I always feel very dumb asking something that it seems everybody else knows.
    The Help menus usually have everything except the one thing I want to know.

    But people here are so nice to me.

    My orcon email account often tags emails as spam before I pop them out,
    including regular bills etc. I keep meaning to check by webmail and then
    change it (as I don't have it set to leave a copy on server..... Actually
    replying to this may have just helped me sort my problem :-] )

    Trend-Micro does not rate very well.

    If you want to *pay* for a product (as you are), then Avast is your
    better bet - cheaper and better.

    However (again), I'd recomend Microsoft's Security Essentials. It is
    free. It has better detection than Trend-Micro. It won't **** your
    email around (in terms of spam filtering), 'cos it doesn't do any. But
    possibly best of all for users like yourself, it has a really easy to
    use installation and interface in general - it's incredibly simple to
    use and drive. You really don't need to do anything at all.

    *Why* are you *paying* for a product that offers inferior protection to
    most of it's competative products and is causing you email problems ???

    Ditch Trend-Micro and put on Microsoft Security Essentials, or... if you
    really *do* want to give your money away to an AV vendor, at least give
    it to Avast - which will save you about $10 USD a year (it's that much
    cheaper) and is much better rated.

    Your PC will also perform better, as both Avast and Microsoft rate
    highly for their performance (read: *doesn't* slow your computer down
    too much).

    All the tests I've seen think Trend Micro is a good one. I'll look at those
    websites and think about it.
