Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES, THE
BODYGUARD: SPECIAL EDITION, COWBOYS AND ANGELS, THE CRYING GAME:
COLLECTOR'S EDITION, THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES, PURPLE BUTTERFLY, RAY, RAY
HARRYHAUSEN: THE EARLY YEARS COLLECTION, THE ROARING TWENTIES, and
    THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION:

ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall
    score 93/100):
"Cagney's performance is exhilarating, a whirlwind of conflict, menace,
ego, weariness, and rebellion. Though White Heat is often praised as his
best work, Angels with Dirty Faces certainly holds its own."

THE BODYGUARD: SPECIAL EDITION (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall
    score 86/100):
"I should get tons of flack for this, but I liked The Bodyguard when it
hit theatres in 1992. I went to see it twice, and cried both times when
'I Will Always Love You' began playing over the final scenes. It's not
the world's best movie by a long shot, but as a romantic thriller it
works nicely. I see it as fantasy for hopeless romantics."

COWBOYS AND ANGELS (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 85/100):
"Vincent and Shane may be of differing sexual orientations, but they
care for each other as brothers by the end of the film. I applaud the
movie for portraying their relationship in completely non-sexual terms.
Vincent helps Shane, but never vies for his affections other than as
friend. Shane is completely nonplussed by his roommate's orientation,
and admires him for the good character he sees before him. They both
respect each other, and I loved that they bond over facing life rather
than dealing with each other's sexuality."

THE CRYING GAME: COLLECTOR'S EDITION (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall
    score 94/100):
"From the opening frames to the final moments, this is writer/director
Neil Jordan's unqualified masterwork, a movie that functions on so many
levels that one loses count in their reflection. As a character study,
it's creative and considered. As a piece of political propaganda, it is
both helpful and harmful. As a tale of friendship and honor, it is dense
and articulate. As a meditation on what it means to be in love, and why
said emotion lingers within and pains the soul, it is as heartbreaking
    as it is aching."

THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES (reviewed by Diane Wild, overall score 94/100):
"But Rodrigo de la Serna is the revelation here. He's a relative unknown
outside his homeland, but shouldn't be now. He plays Alberto as a
lively, lusty bullshitter, bordering on the obnoxious but far too
likable to completely cross over. "

PURPLE BUTTERFLY (reviewed by Joel Pearce, overall score 83/100):
"In Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon we learned that Zhang Ziyi could
kick any of our asses. Here, we learn that she is also a very
    talented actress."

    FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/purplebutterfly.php

RAY (reviewed by Dan Mancini, overall score 83/100):
"Foxx's performance is honest enough we find ourselves angry with
Charles -- with the consequences of his drug use, his infidelity, his
hard-headedness -- without ever disliking him. Foxx expertly reveals his
character's warts without ever undermining his dignity or humanity."

RAY HARRYHAUSEN: THE EARLY YEARS COLLECTION (reviewed by Sandra Dozier,
    overall score 95/100):
"Harryhausen himself strikes me as a man who is used to praise, yet
humble about his abilities. When people marvel at his ability with pen,
sculpture, or animation, he smiles and looks down at his feet as if he
is being praised beyond his abilities. We know better, of course."

THE ROARING TWENTIES (reviewed by Maurice Cobbs, overall score 97/100):
"One part gangster melodrama, one part morality play, and one part
social commentary, The Roaring Twenties writes an epitaph not only for
that age of wild excess, but for the golden age of gangster films as
well. While this isn't the last gangster film that Hollywood would make
(in fact, Raoul Walsh would go on to make Bogart a bona fide star with
the 1941 gangster film High Sierra), it is the last of a certain style
    of gangster film."

THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION (reviewed by Bryan Byun,
    overall score 89/100):
"That's Entertainment! was released in 1974 with the tagline 'Boy...Do
We Need It Now,' offering an uplifting ray of sunshine to a nation weary
from Vietnam and Watergate. Thirty years later, that slogan is as
    applicable as ever."
