Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of CHANNEL X, THE DARK POWER, GARY
COOPER DOUBLE FEATURE, THE GRISSOM GANG (MGM RELEASE), A.LI.CE, LUNAR
LEGEND TSUKIHIME: LIFE THREADS (VOLUME 1), MASTER OF THE FLYING
GUILLOTINE: TWO-DISC ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION, NINA TAKES A LOVER,
POPEYE'S VOYAGE: THE QUEST FOR PAPPY, SEX, SHAME, AND TEARS (SEXO,
PUDOR, Y LAGRIMAS), and SPRINGTIME IN A SMALL TOWN:

CHANNEL X (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 85/100):
"Combining sensational spoofs, the occasional parody, and enough
insular, inside humor to make even the most well-versed pop culture
critic seem clueless, Channel X is a thoroughly engaging bit of anarchic
    animation."

THE DARK POWER (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 81/100):
"When you're faced with four marauding undead Native American witch
doctors who have clawed themselves out of their graves to feast on human
flesh, what are you going to do? Easy. Attack them with a bullwhip."

GARY COOPER DOUBLE FEATURE (reviewed by Maurice Cobbs, overall
    score 92/100):
"Gary Cooper invented stonewashed jeans. How cool is that?"

    FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/garycooperdf.php

THE GRISSOM GANG (MGM RELEASE) (reviewed by George Hatch, overall
    score 90/100):
"In The Grissom Gang, Irene Dailey plays Ma with the same mythic,
vicious ferocity as the previous actresses. With all of her in-your-
face, 'Look, Dearie!'s, and power-punching Miss Blandish in the gut
during a nasty catfight, she is so over-the-top it's almost laughable."

A.LI.CE (reviewed by Adam Arseneau, overall score 31/100):
"The more I try and articulate how much I hate this film, my jaw
clenches and I end up pounding on the keyboard with balled fists, out of
sheer apoplectic fury. It puts even the most ridiculously nonsensical
anime and sci-fi films to shame."

LUNAR LEGEND TSUKIHIME: LIFE THREADS (VOLUME 1) (reviewed by Adam
    Arseneau, overall score 75/100):
"Mysterious and compelling, and with more than its fair share of gore
and blood, Lunar Legend Tsukihime is definitely an anime series to keep
your eye on, especially for fans of slow-paced brooding anime like Witch
Hunter Robin, Boogiepop Phantom, or Serial Experiments Lain."

MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE: TWO-DISC ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION
(reviewed by Mike Pinsky, overall score 81/100):
"On the surface, this looks like every martial arts action movie you
have seen before. And yet, it cleverly subverts every cliche of the
martial arts action movie to seem fresh. It does not look so good, and
yet it is extremely fun to watch."

    FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/masterflyingguillotinede.php

NINA TAKES A LOVER (reviewed by Patrick Bromley, overall score 82/100):
"With her wide-set eyes, gap-toothed, off-kilter smile, and husky alto
voice, San Giacomo's presence in any film is undeniable -- she's a force
that has to be dealt with. Go back and watch some of her earlier films,
as she all but steals every scene she appears in."

    FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/ninatakeslover.php

POPEYE'S VOYAGE: THE QUEST FOR PAPPY (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall
    score 80/100):
"Far too infantile to recall the Fleischer Brothers original concept for
the cartoon, but with enough visual invention and splendor to make it
worth a look, Popeye's Voyage: The Quest for Pappy is your standard
electronic babysitting device decked out in some fancy, megabit-based
visualization to revamp the tired tale of a scurvy dog and his madcap
    adventures."

SEX, SHAME, AND TEARS (SEXO, PUDOR, Y LAGRIMAS) (reviewed by Amanda
    DeWees, overall score 76/100):
"Despite the efforts of a committed and attractive cast, and despite its
glossy visual appeal, the component parts of Sex, Shame, and Tears fail
to form a cohesive whole. The film doesn't know whether it wants to be a
sexy comedy or a scathing drama, and the result may make you feel like
you're trapped on a date with an exhibitionist who has multiple-
    personality disorder."

    FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/sexshametears.php

SPRINGTIME IN A SMALL TOWN (reviewed by Joel Pearce, overall
    score 88/100):
"The camera often peers out from behind objects, making us feel as
though we are looking in on the sad lives of the characters. This
cinematography captures the feeling of an intimate stage play better
than anything else I have ever seen, using the placement of the
characters in the shots to make statements about their power
    relationships and emotions."
