DLLs versus shared objects

  1. Dimdows uses DLLs for its shared libraries, whereas Unix/Linux systems have
    shared objects. This article
    <http://www.regdeveloper.co.uk/2008/03/31/large_scale_c_plus_plus_windows/>
    gives an interesting overview of some of the important differences between
    them. DLLs do seem to suffer from some interesting limitations, that shared
    objects don't--wonder why Microsoft has never come up with something
    better?

    Didn't they try building Vista on top of that? Then had to give up for
    performance reasons and start again--which is why it was three years late?
