Hello there, I am having issues with my router. It is a dlink di-524, my computer is running Xp, I have a shaw cable modem Motorola SURFboard SB5100. The problem we have is we constantly lose our internet connection about every 10 minutes when we start using our laptop as well.

The teenager in our house has a netbook and that doesnt cause us any problems. We got a new laptop a couple of months ago and it only happens when we start using the laptop as well as the desktop at the same time. If we use the netbook and the desktop at the same time there is no problem.
A year or so ago we had someone else in the house with a laptop as well and we would have the same issues.

I am not very technical so when I read the user guides and go through the settings and stuff I may as well be reading japanese. They dont make these directions for the everyday man.

There has got to be somebody out there that can explain to me in simple terms how to set up my router so I dont keep losing my connection. We need to be able to run our desktop, laptop and netbook at the same time.

Please help....i get tired of getting up every ten minutes and unplugging our modem and router and plugging them back in again and waiting a few minutes to be able to continue using our computers.

Well, not much to go on... but try two things --

    1) Physical network: Confirm that the Cable Modem is plugged into the WAN port of the DI-524, not one of the switch plugs.
    2) Logical network: Confirm that the DHCP address ranges are different on the three segments -- that is, the segment from the provider to the cable modem, from the cable modem to the Dlink, and from the Dlink to the home.

    Best,
    --Mark
