I have had the Rebel for about 4 months now and love it. Wanted to get
an external flash (Since my Quantaray 6500 does not work on the Rebel)
    so I purchased a Quantaray QDC800.
My question is, would any flash give me the ability to shoot in full
manual mode and take into account the external flash? It seems that I
see little to no difference in my setting with this flashed attached
(compared with the built in). I thought that I would be able to shoot
at a much higher speed with this flash attached, but I cannot get
above 1/5 even with 4.5 on the lens lit.
    Suggestions?
