Could someone please help. I am running Windows XP Pro, I have 7 icons
appear on my Desktop from nowhere ( Website Hosting/Poker/Card Games/Printer
Cartridges/Casino Online/Travel/Bingo) allof my regular Desktop icons I can
highlight and move them to Trash, but these 7 will not move. I have been
into Customize Destop Wizard, to remove them, but they are not even showing
in there. How do I get rid of these.
    Thanks

Download, install, update, and run these free programs:

    http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

    http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html
(this might not find anything but it's very handy to have, just in case)

Then, download, install, update, and run this:

    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

SpywareBlaster will prevent some forms of spyware/adware from installing at all.

To check to see what's running on your machine, get HijackThis here:
    http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

    See if that helps.

    Hi Mara,
I have AdWare and SpyBot on my machine, and have done a scan on
both, but it did not correct my problem. Thanks for your help.

If that's the case, use HijackThis to see if components of the programs are
currently running, and if they are, shut them down. Check Msconfig to see if
they're running in startup, or use StartupCPL to check and remove the entries
(easier.) Also, do a three-fingered salute (ctrl+alt-delete) and shut down any
components of the programs that are already running. Right-click on the icons
and choose Properties, and see where the executables are for the icons, or
search the hdd for them. Once you've found them, see if the programs have their
own uninstall components, and use those if they do.
