    Hi
my son has a aging Dell lat laptop running windows 98 last night
while working on it ,it died just stopped working and would not reboot
When you plug in the mains lead to both the laptop and the wall socket
the green led light on the main voltage reduction box(?) flashes but
when you unplug from the laptop it shines normally
I first thought that the mains supply was faulty until I unplugged it
from the laptop and the light shined normally
Has anybody else had this problem , any thoughts is the problem in the
laptop or the power supply outside

    TIA

    Osiris

Yep, your laptop has overheated and is pretty much dead.
