I've got two frames in my html file.
The left one is the menu, and holds a list of links that open pages in the right frame.

    My CSS specs
    ( color: aqua; background-color: navy; )
for a:active doesn't work when the html file first displays, i.e., when it first opens.
Subsequent clicks do then change the anchor's appearance. How do I get the default active anchor to assume the correct appearance as soon as the html file displays for the first time?

By the way, my a:active works only in Explorer, but not in Firefox. Would appreciate help to resolve this problem as well.
