CSA Agent can't register with MC

I have VMS 2.2 running the Cisco Security Agent Mngt Console. I was
able to download and install an agent kit on a laptop running w2k, but,
that laptop agent can't seem to register w/the MC. I tried the fast
polling button in the agent UI and get a "Fast Poll Unsuccessful" error
and nothing is logged on the Server MC.
I have L3 connectivity. One message that popped up when I installed VMS
was that I didn't have dns configured on the server. I'm just using
host file entries right now. Wonder if that has anything to do with it.

You mention that you are using hosts files. Do you have the FQDN for the
MC in the agent's hosts file? I.e.

    192.168.1.1 MC MC.domain.com

Another thing I would check is connectivity to ports 443 and 5401 (iccping).

I added the fqdn of the server to the host and was able to telnet to
both ports on the server. I've noticed that in the status info the
server is "vms" as opposed to "vms.mydomain.com" Could that be an issue?

I also have had success doing the Info Update, but, not since I've made
    the host file changes.

I am still pretty green at CSA, so I am not sure....does the client log
have any indication? Perhaps an error code?

Did you add the licenses to VMS? Clients can't register unless the license
    is valid.

Under Maintenance/Licenses in the MC for CSA
I have valid licenses for Management Center for Cisco Security Agents
    and Server Agent.

I also set up local dns, reinstalled VMS so the certificate uses the
fqdn for the server and still can't register or update info. Nothing is
    logged on the server.

Here's the last set of log entries when I clicked the fast poll button
in the agent. It has connectivity to the manager but fails to register

    Hi Bill,

The VMS license and the server license have nothing to do with desktop
licenses. You need to have desktop licenses installed. VMS by default does
not install desktop licenses, they need to be purchased seperately or
depending on the bundle you purchased may have X number included. You should
have gotten some hard white envelopes with your purchase which will have
your PAK number to obtain the license(s) from Cisco.

Good luck with it. I'm outta here for a few weeks on vaca, I'll look for the
thread when I get back to see how you made out.
