Finland´s communications authority warns of "critical" MS Windows flaw

    30.12.2005 at 10:03

A serious data security vulnerability has been detected in US software maker
Microsoft's Windows operating system. According to a Friday statement by
the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (Ficora), no patches are
    currently available.

According to the warning issued by the authority, malicious code could be
executed through the Internet Explorer browser by merely visiting certain
web pages. According to a Microsoft security advisory Thursday, an attacker
who successfully exploited the vulnerability could gain the same user
    rights as the local user.

Ficora classifies the problem as critical.

Windows versions 98, 2000, 2003, ME and XP have the vulnerability.
