recently connected new pc to adsl. also have an early 233 mhz computer that
will be used only as a word processor but would ocaissionally like to
connect it to the net. (both pcs do not need to be connected to the net at
    the same time)

this 233 pc does not have a telephone lead going directly into it, only in
to its external dial up modem. could i put the adsl lead into this dial up
modem or what would be the best way to connect it to the net please even if
its only to get a dial up connection going ? thanks for any advice

If your ISP provides remote dialup as do some, Yes.

You can not put the ADSL lead in to the external dialup modem. You can
only put a telephone line in to it. The ASDL line from your modem to
the computer is an RJ 45 connector and it is a bit bigger than a
    telephone line.

If your ASDL provider offers the option to also use a dialup account you
could tie up your phone line and dial in with this old computer.

Or get a router and a cat5 cable long enough to reach the second
computer and then install a network card in the old computer.
