Computer Recognition Problem

Discussion in 'Wireless Networking' started by =?Utf-8?B?TGFyZ2Vtb28=?=, Mar 3, 2005.

  1. I have a laptop running XP home, a PC running win98 and a belkin wireless 54g
adsl router. Both machines are connected wirelessly to the router and both
access the internet without a problem. I want to share files between the two
    machines.
I can ping each machine using the IP address without a problem. I can ping
from the laptop to the PC using the computer name OK. But cannot ping the
laptop from the PC using its name. I cannot see any shared files from laptop
or PC. I've tried most things to try and fix the problem but am now stumpted?
    can anyone help?

    You can check folowing:

    1. Server service must be running
    2. Workstation service also running
    3. WinXP firewall stoped
    4. Other firewall corectly configured (exmpl. ZA trusted zone etc.)
    5. It's good to run network setup wizard for both machines (for 98 with
    removable med.)

I have similar configuration at home and these are the first things to
    check before I establish it.
