Client Access License Question (CAL)

Discussion in 'MCSA' started by MCP, MCDST, Network+, Sep 7, 2005.

  1. Hi guyz,

I was just wondering how CAL works.

If a small company were to have 2 servers that are both DC's, but 1 of them
has File Sharing set up on it as well. And the company bought 10 CAL's (per
    server) equaling 20 in total.

Would it be possible to set up both servers to conduct Load Balancing
(clustering) to make them considered as 1 server. Therefore only needing 10
CAL's (per server) for the 10 client machines in the company to connect too?

Sorry about the wording just couldn't think of a better way to put it.

You can use those CALs as 20 per network instead of 10 per server (although
the extra server will consume a CAL). :)
