    Colleagues,

We have recently migrated from a Nortel remote access VPN solution to a Cisco VPN solution (Cisco VPN client v5 and Cisco IOS VPN concentrators). DNS/WINS settings were configured on the Nortel VPN client itself. However, in the Cisco case a new network adapter is created which needs to be configured with the DNS/WINS settings.

The issue we are experiencing is that after configuring the Cisco VPN client network adapter DNS/WINS settings, they get deleted each time a user connects. This happens on both Windows XP and Vista. There does not appear to be a Cisco client or concentrator option to stop this from happening. Also, because of the way that the VPN groups are configured it is not possible to use the VPN concentrator to send the client the DNS/WINS settings (because members of the same group may have different settings).

Asking users to enter their DNS/WINS settings every time they connect is not acceptable. The only solution I've come up with so far is to create a user specific batch file to configure the DNS/WINS settings, which gets launched by the VPN client when a user connects. However, this isn't exactly a clean solution.

What we really want is for users to be able to configure the DNS/WINS settings via the network adapter property settings when they first install the client, but for the settings to be permanent. Does anyone know how this might be achieved?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.
