checking my disk

    Hi

If I turn off my computer without allowing it to shut down correctly, the
next time I turn on an examination of the hard disk takes place. That's
    fine. Two questions then:

How do I prompt the disk check from the keyboard while the computer is on
and working? (I realise it may have to shut down as part of the process)

How do I pause the screen during the results so that I have chance to read
    them?

    Thanks

Use Scandisk - find it in system tools or type 'scandisk' after doing
Start/Run. Now take a trip to www.computerhope.com where you can find plenty
    of detail. Why pause ??????
