Basic question here, but am new to DVD drives, so I apologise if this
appears a stupid question. Have bought new computer with 16X DVD +/- RW
dual layer drive. Went into shop to buy CD's for writing data/photos, and
got bamboozled with speeds. If I buy 52x CD-R disks, will it only write at
16x because that's all the DVD drive will write at? The salesman blinded
me with science and I left more confused than when I went in. Hope someone
can explain this is simple English for me . . . many thanks.

The 16x burn speed is when writing to DVDs. Typically the speed to
burn CDR is higher, of the order of 32X or 40x. Check your burner
manual and it should explain things.
