I have trying to use Regedit (for the first time) to restore my IE
Favorites. (The files/folders with my Favorites still exist, but the
path specified in the registry had changed.) When I restart Windows
2000, the changes I made to the shell folders are gone; the previous
    (incorrect) path remains. Any suggestions?

I have never edited a registry, however something I seem to have understood
on my travels is that 'regedit' will not change the registry (as per your
    problem).
To make changes to the registry, what is required is another like sounding
program haveing '32' in it's name.
The program that I have found (in XPHE) is called 'regedt32', it is
described as 'Registry Editor Utility', and is located in; Windows\system32\
