I've got three updates downloaded, but they won't install. Every time I try
    they say failed.

Security update for Microsoft NET Framework, version 2.0 (KB917283)
    (KB922770) (KB928365)
The other updates I downloaded were installed.

Windows XP. Outlook Express. I had 7, but I don't know if that was what the
computer shop reinstalled. Could be 6? How do I find out which I've got?
I've tried "all programs" and "Control Panel" but can't see it.

I looked at Microsoft's Help, but there are pages of it and it goes on about
Catroot etc, and doesn't mention these particular updates.

Is there anything simple I can do myself, or should I leave it to the
    computer man please?

For Download and info on this program, see these sites.

This "might" fix your problem - I had the same thing on a recent new
pc, a new install of XP, and it required this fix to download AND
    install updates.
If yours has previously been ok, then it could be another problem
    perhaps,
but they DO say this program will do no harm to an otherwise healthy
    Pc.
so might be worth a try. Or is yours also a new pc and/or just had
windows installed? then this might well be the answer.

It's about five years old, and just back from the repair shop. I'm still
waiting for them to send information about what they did.
Thank you, I'll have a look at those sites and see if I could manage it.

Real easy - just follow simple instructions and you can't go wrong -
going by what you say - I think it will fix it, if they'v done a
reinstall perhaps - what was it in for?
