Canon S3 exif (iso)

I have a Canon S3 that I just picked up and started looking at the
exif data. The ISO is not recorded that I can see.

My workflow is: take pictures, put card in card reader, copy to hard
drive using (windows xp) file manager.

There shouldn't be any software converting the files. I've tried
looking at them in various software packages but get nothing.

I have a friend with a 10D that reports ISO fine. And I also have a
sd450 that does NOT show ISO either (I just checked now that I've been
    looking at the S3 results).

Is this a problem that everyone has? Are there workarounds or
    solutions?

I believe with Canon's digicams if you're on auto ISO, it won't record the
setting it used. Set the ISO yourself, it should then be recorded in the
    exif.

I read this on the web. But when I shoot full manual mode (setting
aperture/shutter/iso manually) it still fails to record any ISO data
    that I can find.

I've looked at the original files on the card right clicking and
choosing properties in explorer, loading it into photoshop and acdsee.
None of these methods report any ISO readings.

I read on the web that some info was put into the "maker notes" field
but it looks indeciferable to me (see at bottom).

I hate to accept that nothing can be done about this.
    :(

Here's sample exif data (from ACDSee). This was using a manual shot
at 200 ISO... can you find the 200?

I notice you have an ISO heading near the bottom (after the maker fields)
that shows ISO Unknown. I also have a Canon S3 and although I've not
looked in a photo editor, the ISO is definitly getting recorded as if I
upload any photos taken on it to Flickr it shows the ISO used in the
    properties link.

Interestingly I notice that Flickr has two ISO readings. ISO and Camera ISO.
For photos taken on Auto mode it shows

    Camera ISO: Auto
    ISO : 100

For photos taken on manual it shows:-

    Camera ISO: 80
    ISO: 78.799042255394

This seems a little odd, although it does show that the S3 does record the
ISO somewhere (at least, mine does).

My S2 IS does give the ISO if I am in manual ISO mode.

Looks like there may be a bug in the S 3

mmmm... that would be too bad. Are there any other S3 owners out
    there that can confirm this?

Use IrfanView. It decodes Canon maker notes.

However, if you shoot with the ISO set to Auto, you may find that the
reported ISO is "auto", not what was actually used. But it ought to
    report manually-set ISO correctly.

I've tried IrfanView and get some success.

Looking in 'image' > 'information' > 'exif' I DO find an ISO value and
it is something along the lines of 16784 which, thanks to Scott, this
    posting offers a solution to:

    http://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?forumID=1&threadID=9184&messageID=93511#93511

    Or to quote:

    ISO 80 = "unknown 16464" = 16464 = ISO 80
    ISO 100 = "unknown 16484" = 16464 + 20 = 16484 = ISO 100
    ISO 200 = "unknown 16584" = 16484 + 100 = 16584 = ISO 200
    ISO 400 = "unknown 16784" = 16584 + 200 = 16784 = ISO 400
    ISO 800 = "unknown 17184" = 16784 + 400 = 17184 = ISO 800

And sometimes it reports "14" in that slot. Presumably this is when I
    used 'auto'.

So this is a breakthrough of sorts if not a total eureka moment (I'm
fussy enough that not having to refer to this cryptic conversion would
    make my life happier).

So yes, looks like the info is there (if marginally non-standard
enough to foil the attempts of photoshop/acdsee to render the value).

Thanks to everyone for the help. I'll post back if I find an easier
way to get at the info. I haven't yet read all of the posting linked
    above.
