Canon i960 Printer - Color Printing Question

I just picked up an i960 and noticed the colors were slightly less
vibrant that what I was seeing on my screen after editing the photo.
I went into the Canon print driver Color Adjustment option and set it
to ICM in the manual section. The colors now look like those on my
    monitor.

I'm not sure what ICM does and if there are other implications of
changing the adjustment to manual ICM versus Auto color adjustment.
I'm wondering if the Auto adjustment is needed only if you don't do
any adjustments in a photo editing program.

    TIA
