Canon 300D Err 99

    I've recently bought a Canon 300D, and have been given a Sigma 24 - 70
Auto focus zoom lens. When I try to use the lens, the camera gives Err 99

The handbook says remove and re-install the battery which doesn't clear
the error. I've no problems with any other lenses in my collection.

    Can anyone offer any help?

    Many thanks

  2. The lens needs to be updated (re-chipped).
