Cannot delete a profile

OS is Windows 2000. I've been cleaning up a computer and was removing
profiles (using, of course, the User Profiles tab under System Properties
Control Panel). I successfully deleted several profiles except for one.
The odd thing is, the profile was indeed removed from the User Profiles
windows, yet the user's name still appears under Documents and Settings.
When I try to delete the user's folder, I get the error: "Error Deleting
File or Folder. Cannot delete google[1].: Cannot find the specified file.
Make sure you specify the correct path and filemane." When I open the
folder and attempt to delete this file I get: "Error Deleting File or
Folder; Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk"

I have tried starting in Safe Mode but still cannot delete the folder. I've
tried searching for any signs of the user name and/or the file name in the
    Registry without luck.

Any suggestions to remove this folder? Many thanks in advance.

Have you tried to take ownership of the folder, and then to delete it?
