Can you easily copy the stereo audio track from a DVD to a CD?

I know how to do it as stand alone pieces - but I don't know if copy
protection will prevent this from happening. But can you go from a DVD
player in a computer and to a CD burner - and just copy the audio without
    converting it to analog?

you'd need to strip the audio out. Rip the DVD with dvddectriptor and
use VirtualDub to rip out the audio. yes it will still be digital
